What fishing in the Florida Bay and Gulf of Mexico is all about….
What can you say about the fishing in the Florida Bay and the Gulf of Mexico! We are so lucky to have access to three completely different bodies of water (the Atlantic Ocean being #3), that all come together to create a fishery that’s absolutely incredible! It is such a spectacular place to fish, and is unique to the Florida Keys, especially the Middle Florida Keys and the Upper Florida Keys because of the lack of fishing pressure.
What you will catch while Fishing….
There’s a lot going on in these two bodies of water, and it is truly an exciting fishery. It is a sight to see Groupers up to 500 lbs, Cobia swimming all around the boat, kingfish as big as they come, and Permit mixed right in there with them all in the same spot! Not to mention all of the other snappers, groupers, bonita, spanish mackerel, sharks, and barracuda where we will and can use all of the techniques that make offshore fishing so exciting! We can catch huge Kingfish, Cobia, and Sharks off the kite, and the rest casting and drifting baits back on Anchor or on the bottom. We chum pretty heavy while fishing here too, as we are chunking and using block chum to draw the fish right under and around the boat! This type of fishing is very active as there is always something happening!
What to Expect when fishing…..
This type of fishing is what we call full contact. We put lines out all over the place, and really cover up the entire water column. We generally chum until we start to see the huge red blobs on the depth sounder as the monster Goliath Groupers start to gather under the boat! Soon after you will see the rest of the fish start to show up, as it is sort of like watching a movie begin to unfold right on the bottom machine right before your eyes. Once we have them right where we want them it’s go time!
It is one of the most action packed and exciting trips that we do! In a day of Gulf Fishing, you can expect to catch a true variety of fish making for a very colorful box full of great eating fish at the end of the trip. Obviously some of these species vary with the seasons, but from December through early June you can count on the majority of these fish! These fishing trips are longer runs, and we burn a lot of fuel. This is why there is a difference in price and length of the charter, but well worth it! You have never been worn out fishing like this trip will make you!
