Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s report! The fishing has really heated up this week as the Dolphin are really showing up in good numbers! Depths from 400’ to 1200’ have had nice weed lines and the fish have been plentiful. Some really nice slammer sized fish all the way down to schoolies, pretty much all you want the last few days. The Swordfishing has been picking up as well, with some nice fish from 80 to 300 pounds being caught this week. The humps are holding some smaller size Blackfin Tunas and Amberjacks as well as the usual men in the gray suits. Looking for all this to continue to get even better as the weekend approaches. The weather this weekend looks to be a little blustery as the winds are going to pick up to around 20 mph out of the east, so the smaller boats might have a little trouble, but if you have a boat that can do it safely then the fishing should be excellent! Bait has been the toughest part this week, but we have managed to put a well full together each day. Not many pilchards around, but some Cigar Minnows and Ballyhoo have been somewhat reliable. The Jacks on the weeds are getting bigger, but not really to the size we like but it shouldn’t be too much longer before they are.
The wrecks have been slowly picking up each day as we approach the moon. This should continue to get better until it arrives, and the Mutton and Grouper bite should be full on. This is generally the last month for the Muttons to spawn, so be sure and take advantage of this fishery especially on this moon. There have been some Kings and Jacks living on these areas as well, so there is plenty to keep you busy.
The reef has been on fire as the Yellowtails continue to spawn. The larger flags have been hungry making for some great action with some nice size fish. The Grouper bite on the reef has been sporadic, but they have been under some pretty heavy pressure with the season opening at the beginning of the month, so they are just settling in from the beating they took on the 1st of the month. All in all the fishing has been pretty good, and we are excited to enter this summer season with the fishing forecast looking the way that it does!
